Anti-aging blueberry enzyme face mask is a favorite secret weapon against premature aging, fine lines and free radicals. This mask contains antioxidants, fruit enzymes, vitamin c, skin brighteners, and healing agents. It is also gentle for most skin types. I have very sensitive skin and this mask did not irritate my skin at all. I must warn you that blueberries can stain clothing, so be careful with any clothing or towels. I usually use this mask while in the bath tub, but I do use it at sink also, just being careful to not wear nice clothing or use the nice face towels.  It did not stain my skin however. I do not leave it on for more than 10 minutes, as leaving it on longer may irritate the skin.

Peppermint Shower Bombs

I remember many years ago that I bought something like these, and I thought they were the most awesome thing ever. Especially when you’re sick this helps you feel a little better. All that hot steam with the refreshing peppermint scent. Ahhhhh! It seems to me that it helps open the sinus, and clear the mind (I’m not an expert in oils, so that’s just how it makes me feel).

  • ¼ cup to 1/3 cup water
  • 3-6 drops of peppermint oil or any combination of oils that you like
  • 1 cup baking soda

DIY Natural Blush

Now blush is definitely one of those things I pay attention to the ingredients of, as many of them have nasty ingredients in them. And even the more natural ones often contain corn, which I don’t think I tolerate very well. Again, for those of you wondering why I would bother worrying about what goes on my skin, think of things like the nicotine patch. You put that ON your skin, yet the ingredients absorb into your skin, right? Our skin is one of our biggest organs and it absorbs things quite easily. It also keeps things out as well, but a large number of the toxins that find their way into our bodies either get ingested or absorbed.

DIY Detox Clay Mask

Secretly, I am a girly girl and love to wear make-up, do fun face masks and put nail polish on my tiny toes. Sounds like a fun Saturday night, no? I do always try to use homemade products, as they are cheaper and this way, I avoid all the toxins in conventional beauty products. This DIY detox clay mask is very soothing on the face and draws out impurities and toxins from the skin with the help of the green clay, apple cider vinegar and mac root. The role of the Frankincense is to help smooth the appearance of fine lines for a more youthful look

1. Sea Salt

How much more natural can you get than brushing your teeth with salt from the sea?

It’s easy, too: just dab your toothbrush in sea salt and brush away as usual.

Concerned about abrasion?

Me, too. You can also dissolve the salt in water first and then dip your brush in the saltwater before brushing.

Heal Skin With Apple Cider Vinegar

Problematic skin issues such as eczema, acne and age spots are a cause for concern for many people. Skin irritants and unsightly blemishes can benefit from treatment, but there usually is not a one-size-fits-all approach. In fact, many individuals who suffer from skin issues tend to find themselves sampling several creams and ointments that sometimes irritate the skin further. This leads to the question, is there a more natural approach to treating skin problems?

Finding Balance After A Lifelong Eating Disorder

I clearly remember my first experience with binge eating. I was only about ten years old, but my home life was in chaos. My dad had recently lost his business and declared bankruptcy, and we had to sell our home and almost all of our belongings. The turmoil was hard for my parents, but was absolutely traumatic for my younger sister and me. I remember waking up during the night and hearing them fighting over the situation. My sister and I were too young to understand the details, but old enough to know it was really, really bad.

At some point during that very rough time, I bought a bag of candy. This was an unusual occurrence for me because for most of my early life I was not allowed to eat sugary foods, and especially not candy. Once I had that bag of candy in my possession, though, I was obsessed. On that same day, within the course of an hour and with nobody watching me, I ate every last piece. For that brief time, I felt safe and happy. A drive in my brain was turned on that I had never experienced before. I had to eat it all and right now.

Not surprisingly, eating all that sugar in one sitting made me sick. I had a terrible stomach ache that lasted the rest of the day. I knew exactly what had caused it, but that didn’t deter me from wanting more. As soon as I found a way to get access to candy again, I followed the same patterns of sneaking it into my room and settling in for a binge that provided comfort for a fleeting amount of time.

Sadly, I battled binge-eating disorder for about the next two decades.

When it comes to clean beauty, one of the biggest questions is, “but which clean deodorant actually works?!” The struggle to find a non-toxic deodorant can be very real and that’s because so many of the non-toxic deodorants, truth be told, are not great. Even the good ones, relative to the chemical filled anti-antiperspirants, are an adjustment as well.

I personally have tried dozens – Tom’s, Schmidt’s, Agent Nateur, Ursa Major, etc. – you name it, I’ve probably applied it. Through my trial and error, I’ve narrowed down my favorites to these three (albeit I’m always open to finding anything else that’s excellent so please share if you have one you love!):

Primally Pure
A girlfriend was adamant that I give this one a try, so I did, and I’ve been using it regularly every since. Primally Pure is not an antiperspirant – sweat is a healthy and normal and it’ll still happen here – but it does mask body odor with its pleasant fragrance. It also glides on beautifully, has never irritated my skin and I’m quite fond of the lavender vibes.

Why I Got My Breast Implants Removed (my experience with explant surgery)

First, a little raw and revealing love note from me to you. This is one of those posts that I know in my heart can help people, and I think it’s part of my responsibility not only as a blogger, but as a fitness professional, to not just share fun pictures of workouts and food, but to show the struggles and obstacles that come along, too.

But letting you in on some of these moments that are more personal and private means that I’m putting myself out there for criticism and judgement. To be totally honest, I wrote this post, trashed it…and then brought it back. So, as you read, please know that I’m as vulnerable as anyone else, and while questions and even dissenting opinions are always welcomed, any personal attacks on me or anyone else who comments and weighs in will be removed.

Why I Got My Breast Implants Removed

Recently, just a little over 11 years after having my breast implants put in, I had them taken out.

Aesthetically, they stood the test of time, and still looked pretty darn good.

They were soft and I had no capsular contracture.

So why the heck did I say goodbye?

This Silky Camellia Hair Serum is a wonderful combination of a leave-in hair conditioner and an oil serum. It helps reduce frizz, add shine, prevent breakage, and even provides a touch of heat protection along with making your hair smell pretty. A drop or two is more than enough to smooth down fly-aways and perk up dry-looking ends. I’ve designed it to be customizable on a use-by-use basis, so if you happen to need a more potent or more dilute product at any given time, you’ve got it! Its also easy to make and I’ve provided a big list of substitutions and alternatives at the end of the recipe so you can tweak it to use what you’ve got on hand
